In 1981, A group of young Jewish men in Howard County, MD sought to form a chapter of the Aleph Zadik Aleph. The original 12 men set a goal of being the greatest chapter in Baltimore Council BBYO in terms of membership, programming, spirit, and brotherhood. Throughout the years, they rose to prominence through the Region (Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and D.C.) with such initiatives as the Patuxent Cold Water Challenge, where both men and women of the region run into the ocean on christmas morning at the annual Regional Convention. In the coming years, Patuxent would grow, prosper, but sadly, would eventually dwindle to 1 lone member, Aleph Alex Plaxen. Alex kept our chapter alive for 4 years. During his senior year, however, the Chapter experienced a massive regeneration, and Patuxent's spirit was revitalized.
This spirit has continued through to this day. Patuxent has won many prestigious awards from the council and International Order, recognizing us for Chapter Excellence, Individual Member Excellence, Amazing Programming, most dedicated members, and Most spirited chapter for 2 consecutive years. Patuxent AZA continues to be the destination for Jewish male High schoolers in the Howard County and surrounding areas who are looking for unique brotherhood and friendships, leadership training, community service opportunities, and overall great fun.
